too tired to be original, i'll begin by repeating my facebook status update... "[i] can't remember being warm". i am being quite literal.

i am in bed because i once watched a movie at school on the evils of tramping and the voiceover said that if you were getting hypothermic you should get in your sleeping bag. i figure getting in to bed with your electric blanket on full would be the same thing. but actually as i type i am wondering if i will get frostbite on my fingers. plus even with the trusty leckie blankie, and thermals, i wouldn't say that i was warm exactly.

you know who else has been cold? ernest henry shackleton.

hello, i'm sir ernest henry shackleton. trying to cross the antarctic on foot was COLD.

i know this because i've seen an episode of shackleton the tv show. he and i have another thing in common too - we are both explorers. for shackleton, it was polar exploration. for me, it is the following....
  • board games. this week i played settlers with the ships and something or other extender pack. not all explorations are successful, but like shackleton it is how i recover that sets me apart from my peers. in other words, i lost big time. but i'll bounce back.
  • parties. i went to the matariki ball at te papa on friday night. if you went to law school with me you were probably there. everyone else was. it was a bit lame though. so the big discovery was it isn't only in highschool where balls fail to deliver.
  • baked potatoes at midnight espresso. friggen delicious, even if at the time i was disappointed because i wanted them to reopen the kitchen to make me a ham, cheese and onion toasted sandwich.
  • dancing to interpol. so, yeah, i've done this before. but at 24 hour party people on saturday night i may have even beaten my own record of awesomeness in interpol dancing. also i co-discovered the new best male dancer at 24hrpp... yellow pants. that's our nickname for him anyway. as john travolta to disco, so yellow pants to brit pop. basically.
  • pineapple fritters and red bean jelly at dragons yum char. both were too sweet. but both were new and exciting. dragons yum char was just so efficiently run too. apart from no mango jelly it was the near perfect 24hrpp recovery breakfast.
  • bagladeshi cinema. i went to see bricklane tonight. so sure, it was from the UK, but you get what i mean. i needed to go to the bathroom from half way through. which may have reduced my enjoyment somewhat. pretty good. maybe 6/10. if slow moving pieces that make comment on the crazy times post 9-11 this could be your cup of tea so you'd probably rate it higher. what stopped me rating it higher was the weird flashbacks and arty shots and not enough screen time for the younger male lead REOW.

see, shackleton and me, not too dissimilar. and actually, after starting with my facebook status, i now might have to end by changing my facebook status line. because i'm starting to defrost and i no longer fear frost bite. i knew the leckie blanket wouldn't let me down. i'm sorry i ever doubted it.

i have broken some kind of world record because i have stuck with my new year's reso for five full days. i'm so much more organised. and i am reaping the benefits too. i've only lost my cellphone once today and sure i left my wallet at home when i went grocery shopping but at least i knew exactly where it was. in the draw. where it sleeps at night.

oh and i lost my keys but again only once. usually on a saturday i can lose them up to five times. so success.

apart from just enjoying my more organised life i've also been busy doing other stuff. like reading the hollow men. which was a christmas present. which i'm totally enjoying. and playing a variety of board games including the 90210 board game!!!! . the article i just linked to gave the game one star out of ten. and that is generous. if only we had the 90210 twister, which is discussed in this article as part of a tribute to terrible games. (and i know lots of links are terrible for readers but seriously, the second article in particular is hilarious).

i also attempted my first swim in wellington's ocean today and it lasted all of about thirty seconds. and i had cups of tea and played more board games - this time my new favourite board game (apart from 90210 twister) puerto rico. and i heard some exciting news but that is for others to tell you about.

and 2008 continues to show promise, not just in my whole being organised kick. but i have to confide in you that there are the odds signs of it not all being roses. for example i'm permanently in a bad mood. well not permanently, but more regularly that i'd like. plus hello there is disappointment because i'm watching the US version of the office (season two) and it is barely making me smile. but that could be the mood again.

speaking of moods, tomorrow i will be in the best of moods cos i'm hosting a party. well sort of. brunch. and the new blogger will be there. i only just read it half an hour ago and already i'm in love with it. you should read it too.

its a word. that you might use. when you're talking about a great day.

a day where you have banana on toast for breakfast and you're like "saving money never tasted this good". and where your work may be hard and you may feel like a failure but you still go out to lunch with your friend who buys you a ham and cheese toasted sandwich and you're like "bread is fantastic". and afterwork you go out for cocktails and the waitresses remember you from last night when you also went out for cocktails. and they don't keep that to themselves and tell your friends who you are there with that you were also there the night before and you look like an alcoholic. but you just keep drinking because you don't care.

then you go to the wellesley for dinner and order steak and they arrange watties wedges on your plate like they are frozen fine dining. and you wonder where the tomato sauce is. and also when it is time to pay it is virtually half price.

then you are thinking of playing scrab but basically you are so good at it you decide you don't need the practice and go to the movies instead. and while you're waiting for "i now pronounce you chuck and larry" to start you go to whitcoulls where they have your MOST FAVOURITE BOARD GAME IN HISTORY THAT YOU THOUGHT WASN'T EVEN SOLD IN NEW ZEALAND ANY MORE. so you buy it.

then movie time and you hand your tickets to the person at the door and they say "i now pronounce you chuck and larry cinema two" and you crack up laughing because why would anyone go and see chuck and larry? like really. but you sit and you watch and you laugh your socks off because it is so bad. and you wonder how adam sandler could have let himself go after big daddy the most hilarious movie maybe of all time. but then lance bass does a cameo and you realise that adam sandler hasn't jumped the shark he's just got funnier.

what is the that word???

you've got it..... the word is awesome.

this week i will:
  • wear my new necklace without asking people to spin it.
  • go to quiz, as in actually go rather than be in some other city and wish i was there. which is so ironic since i go there and complain about it when i am actually in town.
  • finish listening to every song on my ipodnano in alphabetical order (by song title). i'm up to W. once i've finished listening i can finally delete some songs and add new ones. and by new ones i mean style council's shout to the top. how have i lasted this long without listening to shout to the top every morning to kick my day off right?
  • watch the big chill on dvd. i borrowed it from my mother because it is set in georgia, USA and i'm going to georgia, USA. my mother hopes i will get to see the beautiful house in which it is set. i'm doubtful about seeing the house. but certain about watching the dvd.
  • try to get over how in love i am with marcus lush right now. i want to be a media star that then becomes an enigma who moves to a small town. or be married to one. reow. that man could not be getting more publicity right now if he tried. but this week i'm not going to be sucked in by it.
  • beat hrc in scrabble. i'm not sure how she keeps winning since i'm obviously the smartest person around. then again, maybe scrabble is simply a game of luck.
  • spend less than last week. not spend nothing, just less. baby steps.
  • go to shantown on saturday to spend time with ryles and continue to be the world's greatest aunt.
  • read a large chunk of the blind assassin. i've been avoiding reading this book for seven years. i think the time is right. kind of the opposite to the last book i read (generation x, i know, i'm like twenty years behind the times).
  • not go on bebo obsessively. what started as a way to remind my cousins that i am young and hip has become a twice a day obsession. shame.
  • walk to work more. it means getting up early, but that is good for the soul.
  • become a better person by doing the above things, obviously.

koreans are hilarious. well, maybe not all of them, because it is my job to recognise diversity. and the chances of an entire population grouping having the same hilarious characteristic is pretty unlikely. so, to be more precise, koreans that translate cute little poems on notebooks into english are out of this world funny.

today i bought myself a new notebook, which i will call marineblues.

note the words under the title marineblues:

it is where you can find the life of a person in their twenties filled with
little happiness in life

using this notebook at work will be funnier than the time i printed off the inspirational powerpoint and stuck it to my desk.

to further illustrate the life of the person in their twenties with no happiness in their life, there are pictures...

as rove mcmanus would say, what the?

__________

i miss rove mcmanus being on tele. it wasn't as if i ever watched, except for that time simon le bon was on and he claimed his band had more liaisons with women while on tour than robbie williams. again, what the? i mean i would pash simon le bon at the drop of a hat, but even with his current drug issues, i'd say robbie sees more action than the entire duran duran entourage.

__________

if everyone in wellington guessed less than eleven out of the twenty four oscar categories right, i'm in the running for a free movie ticket from rialto cinemas for my oscar predictions. it would have been twelve out of twenty four (ie fifty percent) if the academy had done the honourable thing and recognised will smith's large and powerful body of work. made in america was freakin' awesome. for example.

__________

tonight i won at board games. specifically ticket to ride. i rewarded myself with some selfportraits.
