this post is a departure, in terms of both style and in terms of NO PHOTO BUT A VIDEO CLIP!!!!! it is a revolution.
anyway, what a weekend! it began with team building on friday afternoon. we hired the magpie lawn at the botans. before the others arrived i set up a badminton net but guess who was the only person who didn't get a game? that's right, me. probably just as well. there is enough success in my life.
i didn't let it rain on my parade. it was the madame fancy pants special shoppers evening so i knew that unlike my cowoes i was going to get me a free gift bag. which i did. and it was better than any game of badminton. plus there were free fruit mince pies. when i was a kid i used to gag at the sight of fruit mince pies. now i drool. i've come full circle. still can't do almond icing though. of course that only proves i'm human. if you like almond icing you're a robot with no taste buds.
after the mfp evening i went to all inner city movie theatres to see if there were any me-worthy movies on. in short - no. so i drank hot chocolate instead and looked at all of my mfp purchases longingly.... wishing they were for me and not xmas gifts...
anyway saturday morning was all about avoiding my landlord's new zealand representative as she inspected our flat along with a valuer. so i went to the recovery room and ate a giant breakfast - because i realised in the excitement that was trying to be in the first fifty at mfp i had forgotten to eat dinner. i attempted to make eyes at the only male sole diner in the joint, but it was only half hearted plus it is difficult to look alluring when you're eating a giant plate of scrambled eggs. plus it all backfired when i got home too early and ended up having to have an uncomfortable conversation with my landlord's representative about how great the flat is looking. i had to recover by watching three solid hours of cosby show.
which of course made me both nostaligic and exhausted. so i was really not that enthused about going to the gossip. but of course i'd already bought the ticket MONTHS ago. and i wanted to see them obviously. and just as well. because (after a delicious tiramisu) i went to san fran bathhouse and had THE TIME OF MY LIFE. cortina - some random band that may have had the ugliest clothes i've ever seen - opened. i was in to them at times, but mostly not at all. then the gossip came on stage and hello, the show really began. and despite sound issues they rocked it. and they did a cover of aaliyah's are you that somebody, which i just remembered is my favourite song of all time. they finished with standing in the way of control which morphed - through some way i don't understand or recall - into careless whisper (which is what the youtube link thing shows). the only way the show could have been any better is if instead of careless whisper they played a cover of the greatest xmas song of all time: last christmas. once bitten, and twice shy....
anyway i had to leave the gossip the moment the show was over because my H.R. guy was blissing out next to me and i'd been really angry with him earlier in the week wrt bum advice i was given.
once i got home i watched more cosby and laughed myself to sleep.
then sunday i got up early to go into town to morning tea at kirkcaldies. so very civilised. did you know they have giant giant pots of tea there? i must have been tired cos i was borderline rude to the server when i asked for milk with my tea. i hope that my generous smile made up for it. however, i'm not sure that it did. then i wandered the golden mile looking for wrapping paper. i'm not sure how, but it took two hours.
this meant that i was late for my date with cazza to go to a newlands christmas party. there were christmas mince pies again and i ate about a hundred of them. plus i schmoozed. and kissed people on the cheeks like i was european or something. which i'm not. clearly.
after the party, i came home and set up my new FREE DVD PLAYER (thanks to fly buys and my terrible credit card usage). and watched about three hours solid of undeclared. before switching to the cosby show and laughing myself to sleep AGAIN.
actually, now i think of it.... it is amazing how i could do anything after all that television shows on dvd watching. and despite all that television show watching, my enduring memory is having beth ditto sing standing in the way of control with thirty people up on the tiny san fran bathhouse stage. what a weekend.
inspired by a coworker, these are the days of my life...
