in the early hours of friday morning i was attacked by an evil cat*.

apart from confirming cats are trouble, the moral of the story is trust your instincts. before i went to bed on thursday night i thought i could hear rustling under my bed. but since i basically think that every night due to my mouse phobia i was like "get over it already" and went to sleep. about five am there was a crashing and banging. and then something that i thought was a) the shadow of death coming to engulf me or b) a family of rats jumped out at me. i screamed and woke up half of my street i think. my flatmate had to rescue me.

okay, so the cat may actually have been afraid or whatever after jumping through my window during the day and then not being able to get out. but unlike me i bet the cat has slept since.

this is giving me comfort though:

not only is it an inspirational message but it has judd nelson in the video clip. back when he was hot. ie before suddenly susan. reow. but interestingly, can you BELIEVE that john parr was not thrilled to be working on st elmo's fire? that man did not know what a good thing he had. although thanks to wikipedia i gather he also worked on the soundtrack to three men and a baby. which is obviously one of the top ten movies of the eighties.

anyway, i should get up. out of bed. and head to craft two point oh. i might need to buy myself a present for being so brave with respects to the cat.

*this photo is a striking likeness to the cat that attacked me, but is not the acutal cat.

have you ever been to a party and left with a fear of fire? cos, snap. which obviously made it the most hilarious nightmare before guy fawkes party ever.

the party was in carterton. which is served by a volunteer fire service. but at the risk of spoiling my story... they weren't actually needed for the party.

our hostess was amazing. not that i could say anything to the contrary after being given a delicious rhubarb cocktail moments after walking in the door.

anyone who was anyone was at the party, including jack o'lantern,

dick, the capitalist guy,

and some chick from work.

the food was outstanding. but these kebabs came at high price, as our hostess went up in flames, literally, lighting the bbq. apart from a singed fringe and a smarting hand she seemed to take it in her stride. me, i carried around a bucket of water for the rest of the night.

anyway, i ate loads and had numerous gins to settle the nerves. which was a bit premature as the bonfire was still to come.

in the bonfire the chick from work and dick, the capitalist guy, were made short work of and made spectacular bangs. which had me running inside the house from fear. but i was happy in the knowledge i'd hosed down the surrounding area when i thought noone was looking.

then i played with the sparklers leaving the more shooting and whizzing fireworks for others (i still haven't forgotten when nick went blind that guy fawkes on shortland street).
but i wasn't out of the firing line because firework manufacturers evidently feel no pride in their work and very few stayed upright once they were lit. which is how for a few seconds i went deaf in one ear.

oh, and over dessert i got to show off my electric slide skills. I ADORE THAT DANCE.

today i have also had an awesome day so far, albeit with less fire. i went to the zoo with ryles and we went looking for giraffes and kangaroos. and i was told that the sound kanagaroos make is boing, boing, boing. I ADORE TWO YEAR OLDS. and then i had to nap. late nights in carterton and early mornings in newtown make me one exhausted girl.
