this is what happens when i get sent to an all day meeting:

i could write an essay on the shirts i've seen. the shirts that i'm sure i saw in the female section of working style. but the problem was it was the men who were wearing them. women stuck to wraps and quilted jackets. back to the men, it would be wrong not to mention the way that ties, when worn, clashed to the power of infinity with the womens shirts the men were wearing. and there were some definite 'i bought this on holiday in fiji' styled outfits. but it was the shoes. THE SHOES.

i am all honesty when i say i saw these exact shoes today.

paired with a suit. i found the image when i googled 'ugly shoes'*. they reminded me of when lena had to wear her astro boot. except in her case it was because of broken bones. i hope they were prescription boots. but i suspect not.

then, straight from the pages of vice magazine's don'ts...

some blog post on these shoes says: "at last, teva makes a sandal that you can wear with both hiking shorts and out to dinner". don't believe me? click here for proof.

seriously. i'm blown away too.

what else happened today? i am getting back in to tv. i'm sick of people saying that they don't watch much tv. i don't either, but that is about to change. so that when people tell me they don't watch much tv i can be like "you're totally missing out". to be honest, i say that already but soon it will be based on actual watching, not just watching the ads in between kanye west music videos. anyway, i watched my super sweet sixteen, desperate housewives and louis theroux (future husband alert) tonight, and the oscars recap on three. i am an addict now, just like that cricketer who is addicted to alcohol or whatever (note: i watched the news but it was mind numbing so didn't follow it as such).

oh and i crocheted a baby bootie. it was my second attempt. the first one was big enough for a fully grown adult. that is what happens when you're in to tv like i am, you ignore your pattern and just keep crocheting mindlessly. (if you read that as some deep metaphor, good for you. but i'm strictly talking about crochet).

*this part is a lie. i actually googled rubber boot.

so tonight i fell in love. with a barman. i don't want to go on about it too much because i have already text messaged half of wellington to announce the fact. i think the love is reciprocated cos he like BOUGHT ME A DRINK. the single most romantic gesture i've been on the receiving end in a long time. sure, it was a lime and soda (market value $1) but it is what i was drinking so hello anything else would have looked odd. forced even.

i know why i'm in love with him. he's hilarious. and hot. two things i look for in a man. unfortunately he also has a cat. which hello probably means he has the classic cat accessory - a female - in his life.

and i know why he is in love with me too. because of all the celebrities in the world guess which eight i look the most like...

and don't worry. i noticed that miss tyra is in there too. like there was ever any doubt.

anyway, in short... free lime and soda, great crochet date, favourable celebrity look alike findings and the discovery of a new crush... what a great day.

when i was a new employee i wanted to milk the organisation for all it was worth so enrolled in every course offered. which is how i ended up at an assertiveness for women course. attendees were all over fifty or under twenty or me (who, hello, was barely over twenty at the time). and we drew mind maps and i got to draw pictures on the whiteboard to illustrate how i felt about certain situations. we were taught a mantra for when someone did something we didn't like: when you_________ i feel __________ in future could you please_________. i have never used that awesome tool, except to mock. what a wasted course.

except for one thing. today on the bus i was obsessing over work and then the words of my assertiveness for women trainer hit me: use your bus ride to assess your day, think about what you will do tomorrow and then turn off.
so anyway i thought about my day (it sucked) and what i could do tomorrow (maybe use an i feel statement for the first time, or ask to do more assertiveness courses) and decided that the moment i hopped off the bus i would stop thinking about work. but lo! twenty minutes later i sit on the couch and watch ten reasons to love misheard song lyrics on c4 and i'm still actually thinking about work. vomit. interestingly one of the songs on the misheard lyrics show was my mind sedate by shihad. i felt like jon toogood was singing to me. and it felt sickening.... home for dinner watch tv....

just as well i have something meaningful in my life - crochet.

my favourite executive assistant ever left to go back to the uk three months ago and in the process gave me a large bag of odd balls of wool to play with. and yesterday i made my nephew a cute hat out of brown and white wool.

he's going to rock the winter wardrobe with this hat. i will need to make myself one now so that we can be twins and rock winter together. it is just as well i've rediscovered my crochet outlet. because i hear from the weatherman that winter is just around the corner. and with daylight savings making sunlight hours less enjoyable i am pretty much only going to crochet until september (when i make my way to the US of A and a month of spas and weddings and celine dion. AWESOME).

last night i barely slept. i blame having a strong cup of coffee while playing five hundred. it helped me to victory (i'm a winner, yay) but the side effect!

i was in some kind of not having slept bubble today. but one thing kept me going....

crochet squares. they rule.

oh my god i have had the lamest weekend. i've made about a million (or really 13) crochet squares, watched eight episodes of gilmore girls and have loaded the dishwasher. oh, and taken a million and a half self portraits.
it hasn't been all dire (i've been out of the house etc...) but really, am i twenty seven or seventy two? objectively, based on my activities so far, it would be hard to tell.

today i am going in to work, which would at least suggest i'm under retirement age. so that is something.

also, on friday i got given flowers by some friends as a thank you (remember when i helped people after they'd taken recreational drugs? it was from them). and when i was walking back to work someone saw me and said: i hope you bought those for yourself and not someone else. and i just smiled. but really i was thinking of my favourite saying: i'm in the business of receiving flowers, not giving them. anyway, here are the flowers.
happy and friendly. personally i prefer thorny and dramatic. but then i'm the one who has watched eight episodes of gilmore girls this weekend so who am i to say what is right and what is wrong.

today was

and i loved every moment. in the heat even the ugly sculptures behind parliament were handsome. as i sat on the grass drinking chocolate milk.

then i went to oriental bay with one of my fave people and ate fish and chips. there was mighty fine coffee too. coffee is a protective factor against diabetes. so the coffee was clearly essential.

also i got great email from friend overseas. well not great. it bore bad news. but it was so dramatic it reminded me of some awesome author but i can't think of which writer. i want to say jane austin but she was never wrote characters quite so hilarious. except maybe the mother of jane and elizabeth. but she wouldn't be worried about her own heart being broken, only that of her daughters because it would have prevented them from immediate marriage.

then i crocheted. and now i'm in bed trying to start preparation for tomorrow's interview. i suspect sleep will win however.
