it's a bird. it's a plane. no it's.... ironman. reow.

so tonight i broke my strict sleep work sleep rule and introduced a movie to my workaday routine. ironman at empire cinema. number one: i'm part of the group island bay massive on facebook. that says it all as far as i'm concerned. number two: robert downey jnr was my second favourite cast member on ally mcbeal. number three: i ordered a large hot chocolate. this all added up to a great night out.

well sort of. i could have ended up with the man of my dreams. two guys were getting tickets behind us. i took a table for my hot chocolate and brownie (i didn't mention the brownie before because it was so rich i still feel ill) and while i was waiting for my flattie to join me i heard the guys. guy one is like "where shall we sit". guy two is like "with those girls". guy one is like "reow [or its less cool equivalent] i know you're away from home a lot, but you're married". so this princess misses out on another prince.

also robert downey jnr and i are two peas in a pod. i was at a press event today (if you watch te karere you will see me being a loser in the background waving my arms around like i'm telling the most interesting story in history). and i really wanted to get up and tell everyone that i was ironman. and that was before i'd even seen the movie.

anyway, i'd give it five out of ten. 10 points for robert, minus five for being a boy movie.

this is what happens when i get sent to an all day meeting:

i could write an essay on the shirts i've seen. the shirts that i'm sure i saw in the female section of working style. but the problem was it was the men who were wearing them. women stuck to wraps and quilted jackets. back to the men, it would be wrong not to mention the way that ties, when worn, clashed to the power of infinity with the womens shirts the men were wearing. and there were some definite 'i bought this on holiday in fiji' styled outfits. but it was the shoes. THE SHOES.

i am all honesty when i say i saw these exact shoes today.

paired with a suit. i found the image when i googled 'ugly shoes'*. they reminded me of when lena had to wear her astro boot. except in her case it was because of broken bones. i hope they were prescription boots. but i suspect not.

then, straight from the pages of vice magazine's don'ts...

some blog post on these shoes says: "at last, teva makes a sandal that you can wear with both hiking shorts and out to dinner". don't believe me? click here for proof.

seriously. i'm blown away too.

what else happened today? i am getting back in to tv. i'm sick of people saying that they don't watch much tv. i don't either, but that is about to change. so that when people tell me they don't watch much tv i can be like "you're totally missing out". to be honest, i say that already but soon it will be based on actual watching, not just watching the ads in between kanye west music videos. anyway, i watched my super sweet sixteen, desperate housewives and louis theroux (future husband alert) tonight, and the oscars recap on three. i am an addict now, just like that cricketer who is addicted to alcohol or whatever (note: i watched the news but it was mind numbing so didn't follow it as such).

oh and i crocheted a baby bootie. it was my second attempt. the first one was big enough for a fully grown adult. that is what happens when you're in to tv like i am, you ignore your pattern and just keep crocheting mindlessly. (if you read that as some deep metaphor, good for you. but i'm strictly talking about crochet).

*this part is a lie. i actually googled rubber boot.

it's like i have some kind of deathwish for my brain cells. this weekend i watched the six o'clock news. big mistake. it is terrible. especially on easter sunday aka the very definition of a slow news day. honestly, if i'd have emailed tv3 they'd have probably put a story on about my "see nobody" weekend and how awesome it was. it would have literally been more interesting than a story about a man who is going sailing and has to make sure he packs enough food or whatever. anyway, that is the least of it. because tonight, i watched a large portion of this is your life, jonah lomu.

literally, i think i'm brain dead now.

nothing against jonah. sure he broke the heart of my co-seventh form peer counsellor. but he's still an okay guy or whatever. probably. and my cousin named her son after him. bless. but the point is i don't care. and listening to tired stories about rugby tours i wasn't on is just super boring. and by the time i eventually gave up grant kereama hadn't even made an appearance. and that was the sole reason for me watching - to see the teary reunion between kidney diseased jonah and his kidney donor grant. television gold - at least it would have been had it happened.

shame on new zealand for only having sports star this is your lifers. so, like that ACT party dude - i've been thinking. non-sport star celebs to be part of this is your life.....

number one (obviously) - lindsay yeo. he made my life worth living in the eighties. especially with his birthday calls. in 1986 my sister won a birthday cake on the birthday calls (every morning someone won) and it was the most extravagant and delicious chocolate cake i'd ever seen before (or again). then in 1987 I won the cake. and guess what. cream sponge. ew. anyway, i hope he is still alive. because he deserves a this is your life. guest could include bumble, belinda and wally weta.

number two - another radio celeb. this time nick tansley. he suffered public shame. and rose like a pheonix from the ashes. and once he held my brothers hand as a radio stunt. guests could include the members of ardijah (who appeared on his all too brief variety show: with a bucket on your head), grant kereama (at last) and my brother, if required.

number three - if we're looking for a woman, why go further than margaret urlich. i have felt close to her ever since we were part of a love triangle. when i was ten i was in love with a sixteen year old. who was in love with margaret urlich. bitch. anyway, it went nowhere - on all fronts; but i would *love* to know what happened to her. guests could include all members of when the cats away and new zealand music types like dave dobbyn.

i have omitted the obvious - peter jackson - because, i think actually that will be the next non sport this is your life - in the year 2025 (with that triathlete and danyon going before pete) and because i equally don't care about him as much as i don't care about jonah. and i'm sure there are others besides, but at this time of night, with limited brain function due to 'news' television, this is the best i can do.
