i have decided african music is my new thing.

at the newtown festival today there was an awesome looking DJ playing african dance music. he had a giant 'fro. and just looked so awesome i wanted to go up to him and say "excuse me sir, you look awesome". i didn't though. it's not really my style. instead, i danced in appreciation with my nephew ryles. but ryles was a bit ashamed of how we were the only people on the street dancing. so we stopped.

there was also the world's whitest choir singing traditional african songs on the new world community stage.

one of my good friends was in the choir. she looked beautiful. but there were some very earnest singers and drumers. eyes closed. hands raised. and at the end of the day, well, they were lacking something. ryles and i danced anyway. because that's what we do. ryles started to cry. i boogied on. because african music is my new thing.

there was also street performance, including another favourite of mine: diablo.

and there was food! i ate paneer curry stuff. and chocolate fudge. and kiwifruit crush drink, to wash it down and make me feel like i was doing something healthy. it didn't work. i'm writhing in pain at the thought of chocolate fudge and how i will never eat it again.

to make myself feel better, post fudge, i bought a new scarf. retail therapy or whatever. it hasn't really worked in terms of making me feel less ill. but study will be more fun this afternoon in my new scarf i feel.

ryles is actually his nickname. the nickname i gave him. he's eight months old and the cutest thing in the world.

also diablo is this random toy on a string that is fun to do. which means the people who do it think it MUST be fun to watch. but the thing is, it isn't fun to watch at all. it is dire. and yet it qualifies as street performance. it also qualifies as campfire performance at camping grounds all over new zealand.

and the food was delicious but i'm still recovering from the fudge.

and also, obviously, i should have emailed you this jessica. but if others aren't going to comment, i'm going to use the comments box for whatever i decide is appropriate.
