i keep trying to pay for stuff with odd things in my pocket instead of money. so far i’ve tried to get on the bus with a tampon and to buy coffee with my lip balm. i’m not used to having pockets so i don’t know what other people put in them. they must have better systems than me.

I didn't follow the link, I'm not in on the joke, I lack any context. But from my younger days when I used to fall asleep reading "The World Almanac and Book of Facts," I believe "cwt" is a hundredweight. I did not know from hundredweight other than the fact that, like many obscure measurements (surveyor's chain, nebuchadnezzar, henry, bel, etc.) I enjoyed the word on its own merits. But yesterday the crossword asked for "14. One hundred pounds," and "CWT" fit perfectly.
I forget where I was going with this.
pete: two things. one: i can't believe you knew cwt stood for hundred weight. i found out the hard way. it was the answer to a quiz question, and i got it wrong. two: i looked up hundred weight and it sounded - from my not very thorough searching, that it related to milk.
In fairness, I confess that the "c" and the "t" were already there.
