there are three things i know about kate bush.

the first thing i know is that she has recently released another album. her first in ages. i read about it in some magazine. probably vogue. as it is the only magazine i’ve read in a while. anyway, won’t be buying the new album. even though kate bush rocks.

the second thing i know is that she has an awesome name. back when HRC and i were quiz whores with CPW and JHo we used to try and convince the boys EVERYWEEK that our quiz team name should be ‘kate’s bush’. they refused. so we settled for CWTs or the milton bradley players. depending on our collective mood. incidentally CWTs is actually a ruder name. or at least potentially ruder. this one time, HRC told one of JHo’s friends what CWT stood for. it was socially uncomfortable.

the third thing i know, i know absolutely. kate bush wrote and performed the best song. ever. i’ve been meaning to write about how much i love it for weeks. but i struggle to find the appropriate words.

anyway, kate says it best (i've picked my favourite bits, but frankly it's all good):

Out on the wiley, windy moors

We’d roll and fall in green.

You had a temper like my jealousy:

Too hot, too greedy.

How could you leave me,

When I needed to possess you?

I hated you.

I loved you, too.

...

Heathcliff, it’s me--cathy.Come home. I’m so cold!Let me in-a-your window.
Heathcliff, it’s me--cathy.Come home. I’m so cold!Let me in-a-your window.

Ooh, it gets dark! it gets lonely,

On the other side from you.

I pine a lot.

I find the lot

Falls through without you.

I’m coming back, love.

Cruel heathcliff, my one dream,My only (dramatic pause) master.

when i was at school i had to read wuthering heights. i thought it was a bit psycho. it was the part where heathcliff dug up dead cathy basically to hook into her. ew. i wish someone had told me how awesome kate bush’s song was back then.

when mrs jones made us sing she’s leaving home by the beatles at my 6th form prize giving she should have been shot. for a number of reasons. including that we sung that instead of wuthering heights. she also made us sing an offensive version of hey jude, and bloody edith piaf.

when a friend is down, all i need to do is hand them my ipod to listen to kate bush, and guess what? instantly feeling better. it is a terrible singalong song in the sense it is impossible to sing. but in the sense it is awesome song to share with your best friend it is the world’s best singalong song.

i will never tire of it. god bless kate bush.
